International Certifications

Products shipped internationally must meet the standards and benchmarks of the destination country. Standards may vary by location. In some cases, products must be certified by government agencies. Certification standards will also vary in their administration. What needs to be demonstrated in order to obtain certification, the length of the process, and the cost are not uniform around the world.

To assist in this process the WTCBN International Toolkit outlines several of the most prominent and frequently required international certifications.

Conformité Européene (CE) Marks
China Compulsory Certificate (CCC Mark)
Other International Certifications or Standards

Conformité Européene (CE) Marks

The CE mark (Conformite Europeene) certifies that a product has met EU health, safety, and environmental requirements, which ensure consumer and workplace safety. All manufacturers in the European Union (EU) and abroad must meet CE mark requirements where applicable in order to market their products in Europe. Once a manufacturer has earned a CE mark for its product, it may affix the CE mark to its product, and then the product may be marketed throughout the EU without having to undergo further modifications in each member state. The CE mark now provides product access to 25 countries.

There is no comprehensive list of the products that require a CE mark. It is the manufacturer's responsibility to determine if a product requires a CE mark.

U.S. International Trade Administration, CE Marking Website, is the U.S. government’s CE mark information page. The site outlines products requirements, documentation, how to obtain CE marks and more.

Welkang Consulting CE Mark Site contains an introduction to CE marking, an outline of the documentation required, and information about specific product requirements. The site also includes information about how to obtain CE marks.

China Compulsory Certificate (CCC Mark)

The China Compulsory Certification (CCC) mark is evidence that a product complies with China’s safety license system. The system requires manufacturers in 132 product categories to obtain certification before exporting to or selling in the China market. The license covers a wide range of manufacturing sectors, and products not meeting CCC requirements may be held at the border by Chinese Customs and will be subject to other penalties.

Export.gov CCC Mark Site has a CCC Mark compliance guide, description of which products require marking, and frequently asked questions section.
